A wall oven is easy to take for granted since there’s no filter to clean or vent to clear the way there is with other appliances. A short seasonal routine, though, catches the small things before they become bigger repairs.
Inspect the Door Gasket
Run a hand along the rubber or fiberglass gasket that seals the oven door and feel for any sections that are flattened, cracked, or pulling away from the frame. A compromised gasket lets heat escape during baking, which can look like a temperature problem when the real cause is a worn seal.
Check Interior Light and Vent Clearance
Confirm the interior light still functions and that the exterior vent, usually located above or below the door depending on your model, isn’t blocked by nearby cabinetry items or stored cookware.
Don’t Over-Rely on Self-Clean
Running a self-clean cycle too frequently accelerates wear on the door lock mechanism and gasket. Once or twice a year is generally sufficient for most households, with spot-cleaning handling the rest.
Confirm Calibration Twice a Year
Use an independent oven thermometer to check that your set temperature matches actual cavity temperature at least twice a year, since minor drift is normal over time and easy to correct early.
