What Igniters Spark But No Flame Means

Where the spark is clearly firing but nothing lights, Bertazzoni's guide points away from the range and at the gas itself: the supply valve is in the OFF position, or the supply has been interrupted. The electrical side is evidently working, since the igniter is doing its job.

Common Causes of Igniters Spark But No Flame

  • The appliance shut-off valve closed, often after a service visit or a move
  • A wider interruption to the household gas supply
  • Air in the line after supply work, which takes a few attempts to clear

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Turn all knobs to OFF first, then check the shut-off valve on the gas line behind or beside the range and the main supply to the house. If another gas appliance in the house is also dead, the interruption is upstream of the range entirely.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Put every knob back to OFF before hunting for a valve, because a knob left open while the supply is restored fills the kitchen with gas the moment it comes back.
  • If you smell gas at any point, stop, leave the knobs off, do not touch electrical switches, and get outside before calling - that takes priority over any diagnosis.
  • Opening unions or re-making gas connections to bleed a line is licensed work in most places, and a joint re-made by hand is a leak waiting to be found.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

Igniters Spark But No Flame FAQ

On a dual fuel range that is normal, since the oven is electric. On an all-gas range it points at the supply to the cooktop manifold rather than at individual burners.

Not usually, but some installations have an excess-flow device that closes on a sudden pressure change, and that is a gas fitter's call rather than a homeowner reset.
