What Upper unit open Means
On Bertazzoni's column and multi-compartment refrigeration the compartments are named by position rather than by function, and the manual defines this message as the fridge door standing open. It arrives a few minutes after the door is left ajar, not immediately.
Common Causes of Upper unit open
- The door left ajar or not pushed hard enough to latch
- An item inside the cabinet fouling the door as it closes
- A door gasket that has hardened or pulled away at a corner
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Push the door fully shut and listen for the seal to pull in. Then check what is holding it - a bottle on a door shelf, a drawer not pushed right back, or a shelf that has crept forward are the three usual culprits.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If the door is properly shut and the message still arrives, the reed switch or the gasket is the issue, and hinge adjustment on a heavy column door is easy to get wrong and hard to undo.
- Tugging at a gasket to see whether it still seals is how a partly serviceable seal gets torn, and gaskets on built-in columns are not always a stock item.
- A door that repeatedly fails to seal costs more in running temperature than the alert suggests, so it is worth diagnosing rather than muting.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
