What Self-Clean Will Not Start Means
Bertazzoni's troubleshooting guide gives this one a single mechanical reason: the door is not shut tightly enough for the automatic door latch to lock. Until that latch confirms it has engaged, the control will not start a cycle that takes the cavity to cleaning temperature.
Common Causes of Self-Clean Will Not Start
- A door not closed hard enough for the motorised latch to engage
- A rack, tray or oven glove caught between the door and the frame
- A door hinge or latch mechanism worn enough that the door no longer sits square
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Push the door firmly closed until the latch takes, then set both selectors deliberately to their clean positions rather than sweeping past them. Clear the racks and any loose debris out of the cavity first, as the manual asks.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A self-clean cycle takes the cavity to around 840 degrees Fahrenheit, so a latch that is not engaging properly is the one part of this you do not work around.
- Forcing or propping a door that will not latch defeats the interlock that keeps that cavity shut while it is at cleaning temperature.
- Latch motors and door switches sit behind the control fascia on line-voltage wiring, so the breaker goes off before any of it is opened.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
