What Surface Burners Will Not Ignite Means

Bertazzoni's range troubleshooting asks four things of a burner that will not light, and only one of them is about gas: is there power to the range at all, are the igniter or the burner holes blocked, are the burner ring and cap seated firmly, and has the breaker or fuse gone. The spark on these ranges is electric, so no power means no ignition even with the gas on.

Common Causes of Surface Burners Will Not Ignite

  • Burner ports blocked by spilled-over food or cleaning residue
  • A burner cap or ring seated crooked after cleaning
  • No power to the range, so the spark module cannot fire

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Turn the burner knobs to OFF and close the gas shut-off valve serving the range before you lift anything off the burner, then let the parts cool. With the gas isolated, lift the cap and ring off, check the small igniter tip is clean and dry, clear the burner holes of baked-on residue with a soft brush, and seat the ring and cap squarely back down. Only then reopen the gas and check the breaker.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Shut the gas off at the appliance valve before any cap, ring or igniter is touched, because a knob nudged while your hands are over an open burner releases gas straight into the kitchen.
  • Poking a burner port clear with a pin or a paperclip enlarges it, and an enlarged port changes the flame pattern permanently on that burner.
  • Anything beyond cleaning and reseating means work at the gas valve or the spark module, and gas connections are re-made and leak-tested by someone licensed to do it.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

Surface Burners Will Not Ignite FAQ

If the others spark normally, power is reaching the module, so the problem is that burner's own igniter, port or switch rather than the supply.

It should sit flat and turn without rocking. A cap sitting on a crumb or a ring misaligned by a few degrees is enough to stop ignition entirely.
