What ER03 Means
Bertazzoni's own induction hob manual states ER03 appears when there's "no pan or pan unsuitable" for the zone, or when "water or pan on the glass over the control" is interfering with the touch panel — a usage condition rather than a hardware failure.
Common Causes of ER03
- Cookware that isn't induction-compatible (not magnetic, or the wrong base material)
- A pan too small or off-center for the selected zone to detect
- Water, food residue, or the pan itself resting over the touch-control strip
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Bertazzoni's own manual lists the fix directly: replace the cookware with an induction-compatible pan sized to the zone, and clean the touch-control area of the glass — this resolves ER03 in the large majority of cases.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If swapping cookware and wiping the controls doesn't clear it, opening the unit to check the sensing circuitry is unnecessary risk for what's usually a usage issue, not a hardware fault.
- The pan-detection sensor sits close to the induction coil's high-current wiring, so probing near it without cutting power first is a shock risk.
- This can be mistaken for a full electronics failure, leading to replacing a far more expensive part than what's actually needed.
- Opening the housing beneath the glass to inspect the sensing circuit typically voids the remaining warranty even when the real cause was just cookware.
- Repeatedly restarting the zone while chasing this yourself can mask a genuinely failing pan-detection sensor if the fault is intermittent rather than usage-related.
