What E4 Means

E4 is printed as overflow, with the cause given as "some element of dishwasher leaks". The warning block on the same page tells owners to turn off the main water supply before calling for service, and to clear any water sitting in the base pan before the machine is restarted.

Common Causes of E4

  • A split or perished hose, seal or gasket letting water into the base pan
  • A leaking wash pump or its housing gasket
  • A float safety device tripping on suds from detergent the machine was not designed for

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Turn the main water supply off and switch the circuit off at the breaker before touching anything else, exactly as the warning beside the table instructs. Then stop - the base pan should be dried out by whoever also finds the leak, not by a homeowner reaching under a machine that is still plumbed in.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Water is already where it should not be and the base pan sits directly under the mains connections, so the supply and the breaker both go off before anyone looks underneath.
  • Water that has run into a floor void can travel under cabinet bases for days before it shows, and a leak signed off as found without tracing it is how small problems turn into flooring work.
  • Resetting the float to make the machine run again disables the one device that is currently keeping water off your floor.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E4 FAQ

No. The code is raised because water reached the base pan, and another cycle simply sends more water down the same path.

Not necessarily. The sensing happens in the base pan, well inside the cabinet, which is why the code usually arrives before anything is visible outside.
