What E8 Means

E8 covers the distributary valve - the motorised diverter that decides whether wash water is sent to the upper or the lower spray arm. Bertazzoni's table reports it as a failure of the valve to reach or confirm its position, caused by an open circuit or a break in the valve itself.

Common Causes of E8

  • A diverter motor that has seized or worn past the point of holding position
  • Debris wedged against the diverter flap so it cannot rotate fully
  • A broken wire or failed position contact in the diverter circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Nothing useful can be checked from the front on this one. Switch the machine off at the breaker and leave the door open so the tub can dry, because the diverter assembly is reached from behind the tub wall with the machine out of its cutout.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The diverter is wired into the same low-level loom as the pump, so the breaker goes off before the machine is drawn out, not after.
  • Twisting a stuck diverter by hand snaps its drive spindle without much warning, and that turns a clear-out into a whole-assembly replacement.
  • From the racks, a diverter problem and a tired wash pump look identical, and the pump is by far the costlier of the two to buy on a guess.
  • Dragging the machine out over a tiled or timber floor to reach the back of the tub can mark the floor and may affect the cover you still have - check your terms first.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E8 FAQ

That is the classic shape of this problem - if the diverter is stuck on one side, the arm it is not feeding gets little or no pressure for the whole cycle.

It usually sits below a control board or pump job, because the part itself is small; most of the cost is the access rather than the part.
