What Control Knobs Getting Too Hot Means
Three Bertazzoni range manuals give the same answer for knobs that become uncomfortable to touch, and it is a usage habit rather than a problem: the oven door is being left open while the oven runs. Heat escaping over the top of the door tracks straight up the fascia to the knobs.
Common Causes of Control Knobs Getting Too Hot
- Broiling or roasting with the oven door propped open
- A perished or displaced oven door gasket letting heat out at the top of the door
- A cooling fan not running, so the fascia gets no airflow behind it
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the oven door and keep it closed, including when you are broiling - Bertazzoni designs these ranges to broil with the door shut, unlike some older ranges people are used to. Then check the door seal is intact all the way round and that the door pulls in evenly.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Knobs hot enough to be uncomfortable are a burn risk on an appliance people reach for without looking, so it is worth resolving rather than adapting to.
- That heat is also passing into the gas taps behind the fascia, and taps run hot for years tend to stiffen and leak at the stem.
- Getting behind the fascia means working around both the gas manifold and the mains wiring, which is why the gas valve and the breaker both go off before it is opened.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
