What Lower unit open Means
The lower unit on these Bertazzoni models is the freezer compartment, and the manual gives this message the same treatment as its fridge counterpart: the door has been open for a few minutes and the display says so.
Common Causes of Lower unit open
- A freezer drawer or door not pushed fully home
- Packaging or a basket fouling the runners so the drawer cannot close
- Frost building up on the seal face and holding the door off
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the drawer or door fully and check that nothing inside is stopping it - an overfilled basket or a bag of frozen food tipped forward will both hold a freezer drawer off its seal by a few millimeters, which is more than enough.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A freezer door held open lets warm, moist air in, and the frost that follows can jam the drawer runners - which is why this one is worth acting on quickly rather than muting.
- Chipping ice off a seal or a runner with anything hard punctures the liner, and a punctured liner is a far larger repair than a defrost.
- If the drawer looks closed and the message keeps returning, the switch or the seal needs testing rather than the door being pushed harder each time.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
