What Broil Does Not Work Means
Bertazzoni's guide gives broil failure a control-setting cause rather than a part one: the temperature knob has been taken too far past the 500F broil position. The same entry notes the PRE-HEATING indicator will flash while that is the case, which is why owners often report the two signs together.
Common Causes of Broil Does Not Work
- The temperature knob taken past 500F toward the clean position
- The temperature knob left short of the broil mark rather than on it
- The function selector not actually set to broil or convection broil
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn the temperature selector back to OFF, then set it deliberately onto the 500F broil mark rather than sweeping past it toward the clean end of the scale. The function selector needs to be on broil or convection broil at the same time.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Let the oven go cold before reaching into the cavity to check the broil element, because the top element stays dangerously hot long after the door is opened.
- Broil elements and their terminals are tested with a meter on a de-energised oven, not by looking for a glow while the oven is running.
- Replacing a broil element on the strength of a knob that was in the wrong position is an entirely avoidable bill.
